Обусловливается коммерческими взаимоотношениями между национальными резидентами (см. residents of an economy) и резидентами других стран. При внешнеторговых сделках учитываются не только цена товара на собственном внутреннем рынке и рынке страны-импортера, но и всевозможные начисления за страхование (insurance) продукции, ее хранение, погрузки и т.д. Статистика внешней торговли (international trade statistics) в качестве первичного источника информации часто использует сведения о стоимости товара, объявленной в соответствии с таможенными и связанными с ней административными процедурами.
